St. Paul's Public Works Department is revamping its approach to fixing the city's pothole-cratered streets.

The method even has its own names, starting with "route patching."

"They will be going up and down every single street and alley across St. Paul and patching as much as they possibly can," said St. Paul spokeswoman Lisa Hiebert.

After that comes "skim paving," which is extra re-surfacing in areas that need extra attention."

Hiebert says crews will be working their way across the grid for the rest of the summer and into fall.

In November, a ballot question will ask St. Paul homeowners to approve a one percent citywide sales tax, where 75 percent of the money collected would go toward a more permanent fix of city streets.
