There was some drama at the Federal civil rights trial of the three former Minneapolis police officers charged with violating George Floyd's civil rights where his former girlfriend collapsed in a hallway.
The jury started deliberating a little before 10:00 this morning. Then, the former girlfriend of George Floyd, Courtney Ross, spoke with reporters shortly after that began.
“So I did come in with open eyes, though my heart is painful,” Ross told the gathered media. “I wanted to look at it as the jurors would and looking at all the evidence, going through this trial now for the last month, the only way I can see it is that they are guilty of not giving Floyd his basic civil rights.”
Reporters on the scene say Ross proceeded to collapse in the hallway, and an ambulance was called. So far, there is no word on what was wrong but she reportedly told those around her that she had been hospitalized for stress in recent days.
The jury got the case Wednesday morning after both prosecutors and defense attorneys spent a full day yesterday in closing arguments for prosecutors. J. Alexander King, Thomas Lane, and Tou Thao chose to do nothing as fellow officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on George Floyd’s neck eventually killing him.
Defense attorneys countered that the officers were too inexperienced, weren't trained properly and did not willfully violate Floyd's rights.
