A frost advisory is set to begin for western Minnesota Friday night, the first one of the season. Jacob Beitlich with the National Weather Service says its time to bring in your plants before it hits.

"Got our first taste of fall coming through, so cooler conditions, breezy temperatures out west in the western part of the state are going to cool off to near freezing later tonight," Beitlich told WCCO.

This comes after record highs for October in the 90s just last week which actually cancelled the Twin Cities Marathon. Now, frost is expected to reach the metro by Monday.

Beitlich says it looks like any of our lingering heat wave is over.

"For folks that were kind of sick of the heat and sick of summer it looks like these cooler temperatures are here to stay for at least a couple of weeks," Beitlich says. "We had our last 80 degree day a couple of days ago and with the cooler than normal temperatures, we've never had an 80 degree day in November. So I'm not sure if we'll get there again this year."

Counties affected in Friday's frost warning include Douglas, Todd, Stevens, Pope, Stearns, Lac Qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Yellow Medicine, Renville, Redwood, Brown, Watonwan, and Martin Counties.

There is also a freeze warning for far southwestern Minnesota and into South Dakota.
