A woman found guilty of recruiting young girls to have sex with a former Minnesota GOP donor has been sentenced to three years in federal prison.
Gisela Castro Medina, 21, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors and obstruction as part of a plea deal that saw her testify against sex trafficker Anton “Tony” Lazzaro, 32, earlier this year.
According to testimony, Medina met Lazzaro in 2020 and recruited five girls, four of which were 16-years-old and one girl who was 15-years-old, to have sex with him.
Lazzaro, who was sentenced to 21 years in federal prison at the end of March, paid Medina for recruiting the girls and even paid a 15 year old girl to prevent her from talking to law enforcement.
Prosecutors sought a longer sentenced for Medina who will report to prison in October.
Lazzaro's arrest sent shockwaves through the Minnesota Republican Party, which he had donated nearly $150,000 to. He was also connected to former GOP chair Jennifer Carnahan, who stepped down a week after charges against Lazzara were unsealed.
