The U.S. Olympics gymnastics team trials won't be coming to Minneapolis until next June. But Wednesday at the Mall of America, local clubs and gymnasts gave a special demonstration to get the excitement started.

To bring the 2024 U.S. Olympic gymnastics team trials to Minnesota has been a balancing act for sure.

"We actually went to the to the legislature this past session, and got funding for this event, some state funding. So it's privately, publicaly funded", says Wendy Blackshaw CEO of Minnesota Sports and Events. We would not have this evetn if that had not happened."

The four day event is expected to sell out thanks in part to Minnesota's own and Olympic Gold Medalist Sunni Lee.

"It's really important for her, of the idea (that) you can see her, you can be her, to show kids that you know what, the sky is the limit," says Blackshaw. "And it's just been a joy to work with her."

This means downtown Minneapolis is going to be very busy from the June 27 through the 30.

"We'll have events right around Target Center, something called Blitz," says Blackshaw. "There will be a concert series, there will be an event down on Nicollet Mall. There will be events in the Convention Center. So this is truly a gymnastics takeover for Minneapolis."
