The first snow of the year has snow slopes around the state open on Halloween.
It might not be the as bad as the Halloween blizzard of 1991 but with 1-2 inches falling over night, Minnesotan's are hitting the slopes at Wild Mountain in Chisago County for some winter recreation. They are now open for the season giving skiers, snowboarders, and snow tubers an early start to the season.
Snow Sports Manager Nathan Hakseth says the weather is right for some cold weather activities.
"Normally, we do open sometime late-October, early-November, it all depends on the weather and of course we've seen some snow today," says Hakseth. "We've had a little stretch of cold weather. We're really excited to be open."
With the slopes being open for the trick-or-treating holiday Hakseth says he hopes to see guest dress up.
"You know, I haven't seen anybody yet, we open at 1:00 today and I'm excited to see some costumes out there and trick-or-treating going on as well," explained Hakseth.
Temps will stick in the 30s for highs through Thursday but a slight warming trend for the weekend will push temps above 40, which isn't the best for snow.
"It should be a great season," he says. "You know, we're kicking it off early here and we're going to get a little warmup spell, but we're just going to continue to make snow when temperatures allow and hopefully we can make it through this warm spell and stay open for the rest of the year."
Wild Mountain is open now through April.
