Hennepin County commissioners Thursday voted to censure out-going Sheriff Dave Hutchinson, one week after county officials revealed an investigation found he’d acted inappropriately in his leadership of the agency.

The vote, part of Thursday’s consent agenda, comes weeks before Hutchinson leaves office.

Last week, County Administrator David Hough told a county board committee that the investigation proved true allegations that Hutchinson had behaved in a racist, sexist, and otherwise inappropriate and offensive manner as sheriff.

The censure and the investigation are not directly related to his drunken driving arrest last December, when he crashed his county-owned squad.

Not long after the county investigation began, Hutchinson took sick leave, saying later he suffered from, among other things, PTSD.

He did not seek re-election.
