The Hennepin County Sherriff's office is poised to challenge an order to reduce its inmate population by Thursday at noon.

This comes after Minnesota Department of Corrections ordered The Hennepin County Adult Detention Center to bring down it's numbers by more than 200 people in order to meet the minimum standard.

The department also noted that jail officials have failed to perform the required number of well-being checks due to chronic understaffing.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's office jail dashboard shows there are currently 751 inmates in custody at the facility.

The Sheriffs office says they are doing what they can to move inmates to other facilities in the meantime. In September, Hennepin county moved approximately 180 inmates to other county jails in the state.
