Minnesotans who applied for Frontline Worker Pay should find out Tuesday if their requests have been accepted or denied.
The state says 1.2 million applications were received from workers in 15 specific employment sectors.
The legislature has set aside $500 million to be disbursed evenly for those who qualify, but it's unclear how many of the over one million applicants will be in line for a payment.
Those whose applications are denied have until the end of the month to appeal that decision.
Initially, workers were going to a check for $750. Lawmakers did say the checks could grow or shrink depending on the total pool of applicants. Walz and state lawmakers approved the amount in April to fund the hero pay requests.
“We've got tons of people out there that consider themselves to be essential workers,” says Governor Walz. “We knew that going in. We knew that with the negotiations, that's why we worked as hard as we could to broaden the pool. And now we're going to let the process work through and we're going to see where folks are at the end of the day.”
