The security fence is back up around the state capitol two months after it stood for about a year. Wednesday a couple hundred peacefully gathered to protest the Enbridge Line 3 oil pipeline in northern Minnesota.

Juxtaposed by the fence and a significant presence of troopers, protesters and tribal leaders pledged their activism comes from a place of respect for nature.

“We’re here to love each other, to love that water, to love this earth, to love all of creation, and that love is what’s going to conquer all,” an organizer said.

Signs and flags carried by protesters read “defend the sacred,” “listen to the future,” and “break free from fossil fuels.” Protesters are calling on President Joe Biden to end permits for the project.

Speakers said everything is sacred and the pipeline disrupts nature on native land.

“That oil you’re talking about that they’re digging up from the earth, that’s the arteries of Mother Earth,” a leader said. “The rivers, the aquifers, those are the veins of our Mother Earth.
