The son of the late Jack Farrell couldn't hide his emotions Saturday morning when hosting "Wine Chat" on WCCO radio.
It had been one week since Ted Farrell's father died at the age of 82.
"I was ready to do this, and you just got me," said Ted, who had hosted the show before when the great Jack Farrell took a break.
"As he would say, the show must go on, you must do it," he said, noting that talking to the public about his love and passion for wine was one of his favorite things. "He was such a unique guy."
And Jack had a unique way of signing off his weekly show, which was really a back-and-forth with long-time WCCO host Denny Long.
Denny would wind things up by suggesting that the two would visit on the air again in a week.
"I look forward to that," said Ted, a solid indication that the show indeed will go on in his father's memory.
Known for an elevated style, incredible knowledge of wines and his signature bow tie, Haskell was a fixture in the Twin Cities.
The original Haskell's was the first store to bring classic French wines to Minnesota, and Farrell would often check-in on WCCO Radio from Burgundy, Champagne, or other wine-centric regions across France.
Haskell's signature store for many years was on 7th and Hennepin but today stands at 9th and Nicollet.
Over the years, Haskell's has expanded to 12 stores in Minnesota: Woodbury, Stillwater, Plymouth, Excelsior, and a large store in Maple Grove, plus an online business.
Ted Farrell and his three brothers followed Jack into the liquor business.
