A suspect charged with second-degree murder in connection to a fatal shooting in Minneapolis is the subject of a manhunt after he was mistakenly released from a county jail in Indianapolis last week.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that a "faulty records review" allowed Kevin Lamarr Mason, 28, of St. Paul to get released. Mason was wanted on three active arrest warrants in Minnesota for the 2021 murder of 29-year-old Dontevius Catchings outside the Shiloh Temple.

Investigators believe Mason fled to Indianapolis shortly after the murder because he has ties to the area. He was eventually captured on September 11 and then mistakenly released two days later.

In a press conference held Tuesday, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said a round-the-clock manhunt has been underway since the release. Two records clerks involved in the case have been fired following an internal investigation.

Mason (pictured above is a 5'9'' Black male weighing approximately 205 pounds with a cross tattoo under his right eye. He has "SUB" tattooed on his chest and also has a neck tattoo.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-317-262-TIPS (8477).
