James Ortley made his first appearance in court today after being charged in a fatal mass shooting in Minneapolis last week that killed four.
The 34-year old is facing charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection to the mass shooting in Minneapolis on April 29.
Family members of the victims were in attendance during the hearing, including Les Robinson, a member of the Red Lake nation, who is also the father of one of the victims.
He says Ortley should not be characterized as a family friend.
"Hell no. No. That's wrong now. I don't know how to even let them in that group. No, my son didn't know him well," Robinson claims.
He added that he believes the killings were over a dispute about rankings within the Native Mob Gang.
"A lot of sorrow, a lot of sorrow, a lot of, you know, like what the hell just happened, you know," Robinson added.
Ortley's bail has been set at 2 million dollars and he is due back in court on June 25.
According to reports from investigators, Ortley was a member of the Native Mob, and he was inside the car with the five victims when they were all shot in the head. The victims were two men, two women, and a teenaged boy. The only survivor is one of the women.
