Tensions were high in a Minneapolis courtroom Friday as 20-year old Jeremiah Grady was sentenced for the 2021 killing of a 12-year old in north Minneapolis.

Grady will serve 30 years in prison for shooting and killing London Bean after Bean had been fighting with Grady's brother.

Bean's grandmother Darlisa Williams read a victim impact statement in court.

"I couldn't wait 'till he graduated high school, but he never even got a chance to be a teenager and go around with his cousins, his aunties, his mother, everybody in his family," said an emotional Williams.

Bean's mother was escorted out of the courtroom following an outburst at Grady's family.

Investigators say Bean was fighting with another boy, identified as Grady's brother, in the 800 block of Aldrich on September 6, 2021. It's then that the elder Grady reportedly began firing at Bean, hitting him in the chest before fleeing in a vehicle.

Grady eluded police for weeks. They credit northside pastor Jerry McAfee and other community members for helping to bring about the arrest.
