Metro Transit is offering free rides for today's Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations across the Twin Cities.
Starting at 6:00 p.m. commuters can board any bus or light rail train for free as part of a safety-focused partnership with Miller Lite.
"This is really across our system and we have a variety of routes that serve downtown Minneapolis, downtown Saint Paul, and the surrounding communities," Metro Transit's Drew Kerr says. "So there's a pretty good chance that if you're heading out the door, there's a route that'll work for you."
Kerr says late-night trips will also be added to accommodate those celebrating downtown until after midnight.
Metro Transit is also partnering with the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority, to ensure that the fare-free coverage can extend well into the southern suburbs.
"And there's nothing safer than getting on a bus or train, especially if you're somebody who's gonna go out and celebrate by maybe visiting a bar and having a drink or two," adds Kerr. "Our drivers will take care of everything so that you can get to and from your destination safely."
He says the final Blue Line Train will leave Target Field Station at 1:05 a.m. and the last Green Line departure from Target Field is scheduled for 1:30 a.m.
If drivers need even more convincing, there is a little snow in the forecast for Tuesday as well. On top of the large storm that dumped just short of a foot on the Twin Cities over the weekend, roads could be a little slick.
