Minneapolis Police investigate tragic murder-suicide with man appearing to take own life after shooting 2-year old daughter

The Minneapolis Police Chief calling their latest case an "unimaginable, heartbreaking tragedy."

Investigators say a man is believed to have fatally shot his 2-year old daughter before taking his own life.

Officers were called to a home on Colfax Avenue North shortly after midnight, where they found a man in his 50s and the child dead from gunshot wounds.

The mother was also in the home but was not injured.

“This is an unimaginable, heartbreaking tragedy,” said Chief O’Hara. “Our hearts are with the child’s mother as she faces an overwhelming loss, and with the officers and investigators who responded to such a devastating scene.”

MPD is investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the names of the deceased, along with the official cause and manner of death. Anyone with information is encouraged email policetips@minneapolismn.gov or leave a voicemail at 612-673-5845.
