Minneapolis police say a woman, child and dog have been released from a south Minneapolis apartment where an armed suspect has been holed up for several hours.
The situation has been unfolding near 28th street and Nicollet Avenue after authorities say the suspect fired shots at Hennepin County Sheriff's deputies attempting to serve an arrest warrant.
Lisa Clemons with the outreach and advocacy group A Mother's Love is on the scene helping neighbors who have been evacuated and other community members who have gathered:
"So, we came out here for trauma work and to make sure that everybody else was safe and to get updated information to them as we get it from law enforcement," Clemons says.
She also told WCCO's Taylor Rivera who is on the scene that they've also been dispelling rumors on social media that police shot an unarmed Black man.
Sheriff's department officials say there have been no injuries reported, despite early reports the suspect fired at deputies on the scene.
Roads have been closed in the area, and the public is being asked to stay away from the area which has been swarmed by law enforcement.
There's no word on the person who the deputies were trying to arrest, or what the warrant was for, and there have been no injuries reported.
Rivera has reported several shots have been fired throughout the day, in addition to flash bangs being used.
