Governor Tim Walz signed the budget into law in front of the state capitol as supporters celebrated what they say is a historic investment in the state.

The wide-reaching budget focuses on things like public safety, education, nursing homes, and infrastructure.

Republicans remain critical of the increased spending, with the $72 billion two-year budget representing roughly a 40% increase from the current budget of about $52 billion.

Minnesota Republican leaders are not happy with the final numbers as they claim their voices weren’t heard when lawmakers were putting it together.

However, Senate Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic (DFL) says that’s not true and that she was a part of several bills discussed across party lines.

“We had committee hearings all throughout the session. On several of these bills, there was input from Republicans,” Dziedzic said.

House Speaker Melissa Hortman believes it is part of a message that Republicans will take on the campaign trail in upcoming elections.
