If you’re driving in the south metro for the next couple of months, you’ll want to plan ahead, as the Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced it has closed some freeway ramps at the 494 and Highway 100 interchange.
MnDOT spokesman Jesse Johnson says it’s the latest component of a much larger project to alleviate traffic in the often-clogged area.
“It’s part of the I 494 Edina to Richfield project, and one of the issues that this project addresses is reducing congestion as well as preserving and repairing existing infrastructure,” Johnson said.
The closures are expected to last through the end of June. Johnson noted that detours will be posted.
“People should plan ahead for additional time if they’re using that interchange on a day-to-day basis,” Johnson said.
The larger Edina to Richfield project is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2026.
