With July coming to a close this coming week, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is still hard at work but also eyeing some projects that will come to a close.
Some of those projects are carryover projects from last year, says MnDOT spokesperson Kent Barnard.
"Hopefully, Highway 36, Cleveland Avenue, up in Roseville, we've been working up on Highway 65 in the Ham Lake area, we're working out on Highway 10, and of course there's the I-94 project between the river and downtown Minneapolis," Barnard rattles off. "That's going to be wrapping up here this fall."
And with a busy stretch of upcoming events including the Minnesota State Fair, Barnard adds they'll make sure roads are open to ease congestion.
"For the Minnesota State Fair, there'll be less construction during that time period that would impact the roadways," Barnard promises. "I mean, there will still be work going on, but we'll limit the number of any type of closures we might have during that time period."
That doesn't mean it's easy-going in the meantime. There's another major closure coming up this weekend.
Barnard says crews will demolish the Highway 52 northbound bridge over 494, between Blaine Avenue and Bobcock Trail in Inver Grove Heights.
"And I-494 will be closed in both directions between Blaine Avenue and Babcock Trail," Barnard says. "That will include all the Highway 52 Cloverleaf ramps to I-494. All 494 lanes and two ramps will reopen 5:00 a.m. Monday morning, July 28."
That closure starts at 10:00 p.m. Friday night.
There is also work for the southwest metro which is definitely going to impact drivers.
"Highway 212 and Highway 5, we're going to be closing Highway 5 from tonight at about 10:00 p.m. until about 5:00 a.m. Monday morning, and that's going to be using a detour on Highway 41 and Highway 212," Barnard explains. "The closure there is between Eden Prairie Road and Mitchell Road in Eden Prairie."
