Our mixed bag of weather is of course impacting the roads on the first day many folks returned to their workplaces after the holiday break.

“We are expecting some heavier snow rates with this particular storm, maybe one to two inches per hour in certain locations,” says Anne Meyer of MnDOT. “That certainly is challenging. Not just for road conditions but also for visibility.”

Meyer says plows are out statewide and will continue to be until the storm comes to an end. There is no travel advised in southwestern Minnesota right now.

MnDOT says travel may be impacted for a few days due to this storm.

“We’re dealing with some really heavy snowfall rates and its impacting visibility making it challenging for our snowplow drivers,” Meyer explains. “It’s going to be even worse for drivers out there themselves.”

Meyer says 511mn.org is a great tool to check out the latest road conditions in your area.
