A recent survey by the global staffing firm Robert Half shows many of us who are working from home are burned out and plan to look for another job in the New Year.
34% of workers reported they are more burned out on their job today than they were a year ago.
Robert Half’s Jim Kwapick says the nature of always needing to be “on” has a lot to do with it.
“Most employees are working remotely,” said Kwapick. “That can be problematic. When is everybody on, when is everybody off? And that can effect and be 24/7 and that can be problematic.”
In another Robert Half survey, 88% of managers said they are worried about staff retention.
“Many people are thinking, am I in the right career, and I with the right employer,” Kwapick told WCCO. “That’s a natural sort of thing that happens seasonally this time of year. But, just much more exacerbated, just given all the challenges that employers and employees have had to face. So yes, employers really need to be very, very attuned, kind of to the employee experience.”
Kwapick says the pandemic has forced workers to juggle their job and home responsibilities simultaneously, and he says many have also had to pick up extra work to compensate for layoffs and furloughs.
‘From an employer perspective, nothing beats a personal connection to your employees, and an authentic and real connection as it relates to how they’re doing,” Kwapick adds. “A genuine caring relative to helping them sort their way, find their way forward.”
