Former Minnesota Senate Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic (DFL- Minneapolis) is presenting a very personal bill at the State Capitol.

Dziedzic is currently undergoing treatment for a recurrence of cancer, and introduced a bill remotely that would cover the cost for wigs for cancer related hair loss. She stepped down from her role as Leader in February to concentrate on her treatment.

She shared what its been like losing her hair with WCCO Radio's Jordana Green who also lost hair during her own cancer fight.

"Over the last year I have learned a lot about the hurdles patients face," Dziedzic explaind. "This bill will make it easier for cancer patients to get afford a wig by requiring health plans to cover wigs."

Dziedzic says she learned some humbling lessons along the way including a warning to keep her new wig away from anything too hot.

"Don't stand under heat lamps at restaurants, be careful around the stove in the oven," she says.

"And then I didn't think anything of it when I went to check the egg bake on Mother's Day and I could just feel the hair melt."

The bipartisan bill would mandate insurance for costs related to wigs and accessories up to $1,000.
