Finding a new job is a little more of a challenge than it was just a few years ago when openings were popping up all over the place amid the so-called Great Resignation.
National numbers from earlier this summer show hiring is cooling after the frenzy to fill all jobs left open due to people resigning and looking for other work.
Mick Doherty, Executive Vice President of local staffing firm Dahl Consulting, says the job market is a bit more balanced these days.
“Companies had to make quick decisions, if they liked someone, offering the job after that first interview,” Doherty said. “Well, now it’s starting to shift a little bit more. The hiring process is taking a lot longer than it did in previous years. Companies are now starting to get a little bit pickier, having extra interviews, see extra candidates before they make that hiring decision.”
While Doherty says overall hiring is down right now, particularly in larger organizations, he says many companies are still struggling to find enough workers.
Doherty also says the first half of 2023 had companies holding their breath over fears of a recession, but now analysts are actually predicting job growth through the rest of the year.
