St. Paul police aren't sure if there's a connection between an armed confrontation with a man caught breaking into a car and a carjacking that happened nearby.
It began about 6:00 p.m. Monday when officers saw a man they say was “digging” into the trunk of a parked car on the 900 block of Algonquin Ave.
A fight began, and the suspect reportedly fired a weapon with the officers returning fire. No one was hurt and the suspect got away.
A short time later, a carjacking involving a male with a gun was reported near the intersection of Stillwater Avenue East and Hazel Street North.
That’s about a block away from the first incident.
Again, no one was hurt and there are no arrests.
“Anytime somebody pulls a trigger in the city of St. Paul, I think it’s concerning,” said St. Paul police spokesman Steve Linders. “We all need to look out for one another.”
This comes after St. Paul’s 25th reported homicide, which happened over the weekend.
A man was found fatally shot early Sunday on Grand Avenue between Avon and Victoria , and there are no arrests.
