A 16-year-old North High School student and multi-sport athlete is reportedly in stable condition after he was shot multiple times Wednesday night.

Police responded to shots fired around 8:30 p.m. and found the teen with gunshot wounds to both legs on the 2100 block of 8th Avenue North.

Relatives identified the boy to the Star Tribune as Cashmere Hamilton-Grunau. They say he and a friend were walking home when a car began following them. At one point one of the teenage occupants asked if the boys were in a gang before opening fire.

The shooting comes just over a year after North student 15-year-old DeShaun Hill Jr. was shot and killed while walking home.

Hamilton-Grunau's been featured in Showtime's "Boys in Blue" documentary about the Polars' 2021 football season.
