Protests get tense as unlawful assembly declared for fourth night in a row

With an hour before the start of a county-wide 10 p.m. curfew, protestors have continued to gather outside of the Brooklyn Center police precinct in response to the death of Daunte Wright.

In response to the protests, officials have announced a dispersal order and declared the protest an unlawful assembly which was met with honks and screams from the protestors.

Currently, outside the precinct, there is a line the length of the building of officers and some type of tactical vehicle with a nonlethal weapon that is armed and pointed at the crowd of protestors.
Officers have begun to deploy tear gas as well as pepper spray in an attempt to break up the crowd calling for justice for Daunte Wright.

Unsure if it is officers or national guard members, WCCO Reporter Sloane Martin is observing the protests and the movements being made behind the make-shift fence surrounding the precinct.

Before the 9 p.m. hour, things were more peaceful before officers declared the unlawful assembly and began using nonlethal projectiles in an attempt to disperse the crowd, Martin said.

Officers have also begun to threaten arrests if protestors do not disperse shortly.

Protestors have continued to fire off fireworks on their side of the fence as the night has continued and have not begun to disperse despite the announcements made.
