As first reported by KSTP-TV Political Reporter and WCCO Host Tom Hauser, Minnesota senior U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar has taken the preliminary measures to run for governor.

Sen. Klobuchar has filed the proper paperwork on Thursday to create a campaign committee to run for the position in 2026.

Klobuchar would be the first Democratic candidate to announce her candidacy since Governor Tim Walz announced he would not seek a third term.

A formal announcement is expected to come soon.

Klobuchar would be entering a race with several Republican candidates.

Those include House Speaker Lisa Demuth, Maple Grove Rep. Kristin Robbins, local attorney Chris Madel, businessman Kendall Qualls, and MyPillow CEO/founder Mike Lindell.
