Groundbreaking Tuesday afternoon on a new headquarters for the Minnesota State Patrol

The new facility in Roseville has been years in the making and for the first time will combine employees from six different locations under one roof.

"This is tough work and it has changed. Modern policing is different now and we know that this isn't just about a building," said Gov. Tim Walz at the ceremonial groundbreaking Tuesday. "It's about people who occupy the building. It's about the mission that they need to get done."

The $119 million facility will have state-of-the-art technology and will be large enough to allow for collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies. The state tore down the former Minnesota Department of Education building, located at 1500 Highway 36 in Roseville, to clear the plot for construction.

"In 2025 we've seen that violent crime has decreased 14% in the Twin Cities, 9% in Greater Minnesota, and the Uniform Crime Report puts the lowest level of violent crime in the past decade in Minnesota," Walz notes about the agency. "That's because of the men and women that do this work on a daily basis."

The approximately 120,000 square foot headquarters will consolidate six existing metro-area State Patrol locations into a single facility, improving collaboration, operational efficiency, and training capabilities.

"Training continues throughout her career at our agency because the challenges we face continue to change," State Patrol Colonel Christina Bogojevic added. "And dedicated evidence processing and storage will give us the secure space we need to protect evidence and support the investigative process."

It's scheduled to open in 2028. The facility was designed by the architectural firm, LEO A DALY.
