If you're headed to the Twins game against the Dodgers on Monday, the company that runs the concessions stands at Target Field is assuring fans it will be business as usual despite a planned strike by those booth workers.
Delaware North officials say there will be no disruption to concessions operations, and booths will be staffed with temporary workers, recent hires, nonprofit partners, managers and other staff.
In a statement Delaware North says it continues to engage in contract negotiations with union members and the company remains committed to reaching a fair agreement.
“Fans should come hungry, thirsty and ready to enjoy everything Target Field has to offer,” said Pete Spike, general manager for Delaware North at Target Field. “All concession stands and hospitality areas will be open, fully staffed and serving the same great food, beverage and service experience our guests expect.”
The next bargaining session is scheduled for Tuesday June 23, and a federal mediator has been requested to assist the process.
At issue for about 500 unionized concession workers are wages, affordable health care, and limits on volunteer-led stands at the home of the Twins.
The game on Monday is likely to be one of the biggest crowds so far this season, with over 30,000 fans expected at Target Field as they take on the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, and their star Shohei Ohtani, who is expected to be in the lineup as a DH and start the game on Wednesday.
“Our focus is delivering a great fan experience from first pitch through the final out,” Spike said. “We have the team in place to support that.”
