Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. For young people, it can be a parent, athlete, musician – or even a radio DJ!
A young man named Zach is an aspiring drummer. Zach’s favorite station is WCCO’s sister-station in Minnesota, 104.1 JACK FM. He listens every single day.
Zach’s told his dad, Jake, that his dream was to meet Remy Maxwell, who is the 3:00-6:00p.m. jock on JACK. And sometimes those dreams get to come true because Zach’s dad was a friend of Remy.
What followed brought (tattooed, biker-freak) grown men to tears. And it helped everyone regain some perspective on why we do what we do.

First, Remy gave a shout-out to Zach and played a song for him on JACK. When Zach heard this, he exclaimed, “He said my name! He said my name!” It was the kind of excitement that seems to only come from a boy Zach’s age.
That was followed by Zach getting tickets to see Green Day, Weezer and Fallout Boy at Target Field courtesy of JACK FM and Remy. It also happened to be Zach’s first-ever concert in August of 2021. Zach said afterwards that it was one of the best days of his life.
That was topped when he got a chance to visit the Audacy Minneapolis building in Downtown Minneapolis on August 24 of this year, home to 104.1 JACK FM, 102.9 The Wolf, and WCCO. A tour of the studio, hanging with Remy, his producer Weasel, and JACK Brand Manager Adam Sprenger followed.
On the way home, Zach got another surprise when Remy again talked about him live on the radio. “Oh my God, second time!” explained Zach who said that this day just keeps on getting better. From there emotion took over and a few tears were shed.
The video above was produced by Jake Jezusko and details Zach’s adventures in getting to meet his hero, Remy Maxwell.
“If Remy was right here, I would give him a big hug,” says Zach.
Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear tattoos and leather jackets.
