There are no arrests after a 16-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his leg during a large gathering inside an event center in Saint Paul.

Police were called around 9:30 p.m. Saturday to the scene on the five-hundred block of Snelling Avenue north, not far from University Avenue.

About a hundred teenagers outside the building were fighting and police say they had to work hard to restore calm.

The event center manager says the managed to turn away several armed people who were trying to get inside.

According to police, one person who managed to bring a gun into the building fired the weapon after being escorted outside, and that another person who was outside fired into the crowd.

The victim is expected to recover.

In a statement detailing the incident, St. Paul police say it was "astonishing" that more weren't hurt.
