Jury selection is finished in downtown Minneapolis in the trial of a woman accused in the shooting death of her 6-year-old son whose body was found in the trunk of her car. Opening statements are set for Friday morning at 9.
Julissa Thaler is charged with one count each of first-degree murder and second-degree murder in the death of Eli Hart.
Thaler was stopped on May 20, 2022 by Orono police, who spotted her driving in a car that had a bare tire rim and smashed-out window.
Police drove Thaler home to Spring Park before discovering Eli's lifeless, bullet-riddled body in the vehicle's trunk.
According to the police report, the boy had dies from multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers say they found the body after noticing that Thaler appeared to have blood on her hands, face and clothing, and they also found shell casings.
Thaler was declared competent to stand trial in December after rejecting a plea deal.
