Two adults and two children are hospitalized after two homes in Eden Prairie burned early this morning.

It happened just after 12:30 a.m. on Lee Drive, and investigators say it appears the fire started in one home and spread to the other.

"(I heard) one bang, like a huge firecracker," Steve Hunt, who lives nearby, told WCCO television. "I came outside and heard another loud bang, and went down the street and saw flames shooting out of the house, and then the second house caught fire, too."

The extent of the injuries suffered by the four people is not known.

Crews from Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Minnetonka, Hopkins, Chaska, and Chanhassen all responded to the blaze.

"One of the concerns this time of year, the temperatures are a little bit warm, so, operating in high heat environments, we need to make sure we recycle our crews through safely," Eden Prairie Fire Chief Scott Gerber told WCCO television.

Crews cleanup work includes boarding up the homes that were damaged.

It's not known what started the fire.
