"We've blown it" Mayo doctor on US handling of pandemic

If you think life in United States will return to pre-pandemic normalcy in 2022, think again.

Sobering analysis today from Dr. Gregory Poland at the Mayo Clinic, who has this stark assessment of how the United States has handled the COVID pandemic.

"Frankly, we've blown it," Dr. Poland told WCCO's Paul Douglas. "We made a collective decision as individuals and as a nation (that we) cannot do what should have been required of us in order to deal with this."

Poland says because so many people still won't get vaccinated, and because so many simply won't adhere to other safety measures like wearing a mask, there is no way COVID is going away any time soon.

He says at best, seasonal vaccines will likely be required against COVID moving forward, but he says that doesn't take into consideration possible new variants.
