Five days of World Cup community watch parties are kicking off on Lake Street in south Minneapolis Tuesday.

It's an effort to promote some of the ethnic restaurants and shops hit hard during Operation Metro Surge.

Lake Street Business Council spokesman Mauz Osman told Vineeta Sawkar on the WCCO Morning News the event celebrates the diverse businesses that make Lake Street a go-to destination for soccer culture.

"They say Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes, and we say Lake Street is the lake of 10,000 lands," Osman says.

It is certainly one of the most culturally-diverse streets in the Twin Cities. Osman says soccer is huge for the many ethnic restaurants and businesses along the street.

He says they've been working to bring more events to the area to help them recover from the effects of the immigration crackdown over the winter.

"These watch parties are going to be one of them, to bring people, to bring out the community, to bring people from outside Lake Street as well to enjoy all the diverse food and the culture," Osman explains. 'And just, you know, join Lake Street and join this giant party."

The party runs through Saturday, and will be located on the 2700 block of Lake Street near El Neuvo Campo restaurant.
