A small boat filled with 24 people stranded in the Caribbean Sea was rescued by a Carnival cruise ship on Tuesday, according to a statement from the cruise line.

Officers aboard the Carnival Spirit spotted the boat with two dozen people stranded as the cruise liner was headed towards Aruba, sailing between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

The two dozen sailors were brought onto the ship and taken to safety, the statement shared. Medical personnel onboard found them to be in good condition.

After rescuing the stranded sailors, the ship’s officers contacted the Coast Guard from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic so a transfer could be coordinated.

“At 3 p.m., a Coast Guard cutter arrived to complete the transfer near La Romana, Dominican Republic, and Carnival Spirit resumed its voyage,” the statement said.

The cruise line did not share what the 24 people were doing in the boat or where they were transferred to by the Coast Guard.
