DETROIT (WWJ) -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling close to half-a-million vehicles in the U.S. because of a possible brake fluid leak.

The automaker says the issue is with a hose that can rupture the Ford Edge, SUV from the 2015 to 2018 model year, as well as the mid-size luxury Lincoln MKX, from model year 2016 to 2018.

"That hose could leak brake fluid, that could lengthen stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash," WWJ Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Gilbert said, detailing a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTSHA) report released Thursday.

At this point, Ford said is has no reports or crashes or injuries related to this problem. However, the NTSHA said the issue could increase the risk of a crash.

Owners of the vehicles covered by this recall will be notified.

This comes as Ford is also issuing unrelated recalls involving faulty tail lights in 213,000 and airbags that can be torn in around 100,000 other vehicles.

Gilbert said Ford has issued 105 recalls so far this year, already a record for a single manufacturer.

"In Ford's case, they've had some issues with older vehicles," Gilbert said. "They say their newer vehicles don't have these recalls — there have been a few. But most of these, like this particular one, (are) 2015 to 2018 model year recalls."

Gilbert said the recalls have ranged from significant mechanical issues to simple over-the-air updates with software issues.
