Three people died Saturday when a single-engine plane crashed into a vacant lot in a town 25 miles southwest of Minneapolis. According to the NTSB, the crash happened at around 5:40 p.m. in Victoria.

The crash of the single-engine Mooney M20 ignited a nearby house, which was occupied at the time. Family members inside the home were able to escape and no injuries were reported.

According to the FAA, the plane left Alexandria earlier in the day and was headed for Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie.

Investigators returned to the crash scene early Sunday morning. Highway 5 going into the crash area remained closed as part of the investigation.
