Indianapolis, Ind. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - There have been a lot of notable defensive end names mentioned as possible trade targets for the Buffalo Bills this offseason. This includes Myles Garrett, who has publicly requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, as well as the Maxx Crosby (Las Vegas Raiders) and even Micah Parsons (Dallas Cowboys).
The cost to acquire any of those talents will be hefty, and most likely include, at least, a first-round draft pick.
While he can't answer questions or talk about anyone specifically on another roster, Bills general manager Brandon Beane did say Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine he won't flinch on making any move that he believes is best for the franchise, including trading a first-round pick.
"Anything that's right that can help our team, yes, I would not flinch," Beane said on Tuesday. "I say this on the golf course, 'I'm a lot of things, but scared ain't one of them.'
"Anything that can help our roster, that can fit and not cripple us in another way, yes, we would definitely do it."
Beane spoke for nearly a half hour and addressed a variety of topics, including James Cook's contract situation, and the running back making things public via social media posts.
"I love him," Beane said about Cook. "James speaks from the heart. He means well. I want James here. The business is the business. Would I prefer we don't take the business outside? Yes. I think that's always the best way to handle it. But James is a grown man, and he'll handle it the way he does."
Beane adds that just because the two sides may not be on the same page today, it doesn't mean they won't be tomorrow, or weeks or months down the line.
Cook is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Khalil Shakir was set to enter the final year of his rookie deal, but inked an extension on Tuesday, which was announced by the team shortly before Beane spoke to the media.
Here's some of what he said about Shakir, as well as other topics during the session:
