Buffalo N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills are bringing back a starter on the defensive side of the football from the 2024 season.
The Bills announced on Wednesday they have re-signed safety Damar Hamlin to a one-year contract extension.
Hamlin started 14 games this past season at safety, reeling in two interceptions, recovering a fumble and racking up 89 total tackles. He also started in all three playoff games for the Bills, recording a forced fumble, a sack on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, and 15 total tackles.
Hamlin is now two years removed from his cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17 of 2022 season. This after making a routine tackle against Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.
Following the incident, Hamlin was able to make a full recovery, and was cleared to resume football activities four months later. He even appeared in five games for the Bills over the course of the 2023 season, and was a finalist for the AP Comeback Player of the Year.
In 48 career games for the Bills, the former sixth-round pick (212th overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft has put up 184 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, nine passes defended and two interception.
