Amherst, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - "It's Bills or retire. I'm not going anywhere else."
Those were the exact words of safety Micah Hyde when asked about his football playing future on Thursday while promoting his annual Charity Softball Game at a press conference at Northtown Automotive.
"I really don't know," Hyde added when asked if he will play again, adding that general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott have been supportive in allowing him to take his time to decide.
"I've been an open book with Beane with Sean," he said. "There's no rush at all on my side.
"I just got done talking to them and we're all on the same page. I am 33-years-old, I want to have a healthy life, and family is the most important thing to me. At the same time, I do want to win a Super Bowl, that would be pretty damn awesome. So we'll see. We'll take it day-by-day."
Hyde's contract expired following the 2023 season. He had been a starting safety for the team since 2017, pairing on the back-end with Jordan Poyer for the past seven years.
Poyer was released by the club in March, and then signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins.
Despite not even being on the Bills' roster right now, Hyde is still holding his Charity Softball Game on Sunday at Sahlen Field in Downtown Buffalo. Many of his former teammates have already committed to playing in the annual offense vs. defense contest, including quarterback Josh Allen, offensive tackle Dion Dawkins, linebacker Matt Milano and others.
The Bills currently have 91 players on their roster, the maximum allowed and signed safety Dee Delaney on Thursday.
