Joe Brady getting interview requests for NFL head coaching jobs

The Jaguars are the only team, to this point, to have confirmed their request for an interview with the Bills offensive coordinator

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Following an MVP caliber season from quarterback Josh Allen under center in Orchard Park, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady is getting some attention league-wide with vacant head coaching positions.

According to multiple reports on "Black Monday" in the NFL, a pair of teams have formally requested to interview Brady for their head coaching vacancies: The New York Jets and New Orleans Saints.

Both teams fired their head coach midseason in 2024, with the Jets having relieved Robert Saleh of duties following New York's Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. Meanwhile, it took the Saints nine weeks to fire head coach Dennis Allen after a 2-7 start to the year.

Brady joins a long list of candidates the Jets have either already interviewed, or plan to interview for their head coach opening. Among the other names to be in contention for the Jets' job includes Mike Vrabel, Ron Rivera, Brian Flores, Aaron Glenn, and former Jets and Bills head coach Rex Ryan.

Meanwhile, Brady has a past history with the Saints, serving as an offensive assistant coach under head coach Sean Payton for two seasons in 2017 and 2018. He then was hired by the LSU Tigers in 2019, where he served as their passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach on a National Championship team that featured the likes of quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase.

Then on Tuesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars made their intentions known with their head coaching search, announcing Brady as one of the candidates they have requested an interview with.

The Jaguars moved on from head coach Doug Pederson at the end of the regular season after leading Jacksonville to a 4-13 record in 2024. Jacksonville has struggled since making the playoffs in Pederson's first season, which included a 5-18 stretch in the last 23 games.

One additional team has reportedly expressed interest in Brady's services, as ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter says the Chicago Bears have submitted a request to interview the Bills offensive coordinator.

The Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus after Chicago's Week 13 disaster on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions. In the 12 games coached in 2024, Eberflus led a Bears team that started 4-2 to six-straight losses before he was given the pink slip.

Chicago ended up finishing the year at 5-12, with Thomas Brown coaching the Bears on an interim basis for the final five games.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott acknowledged on Monday that Brady was garnering some interest and requests from teams around the NFL, but adds the interests of the team in Orchard Park is the top priority at this time.

As for Brady, he also acknowledged the interest from other teams in his services, but knows the ultimate goal right now is to win in Buffalo.

"There really doesn't need to be much of a balance. My focus is strictly on trying to win a Super Bowl with this team," said Brady on Monday in his weekly Zoom call with the media. "If any interviews happen, they would be next week."

Brady does aspire to be a head coach in the NFL, given the right opportunity, but says he's just trying to find a way to win this week when the Bills host the Denver Broncos in the AFC Wild Card Round at Highmark Stadium.

Kickoff on Sunday is slated for 1 p.m..
