Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills held their second of three mandatory minicamp practices on Wednesday, and this time, their MVP quarterback was dialed-in right from the start.
After throwing three interceptions on Tuesday, Josh Allen didn’t have a ball hit the ground, much less a defender’s hands, through the early portion of the first 7-on-7 period of practice.
Allen continued to find wide receiver Elijah Moore for several big gains, as Moore has consistently shown an ability to find holes in the intermediate level of the defense.
It wasn’t just Moore on the other end of Allen passes on Wednesday. We also started to see the chemistry built with free agent addition Joshua Palmer.
Also, Tyrell Shavers, who had a very impressive training camp last year, has seemed to make several impressive plays each day throughout OTAs and minicamp. Shavers had a couple of those on Wednesday, including one on rookie first-round cornerback Max Hairston. Hairston was in excellent coverage over the middle, but Shavers was still able to get his longer arms on the football and bring it in.
The defense did make their share of plays, including two by veteran cornerbacks.
First, Tre’Davious White had, what would’ve been, a pick-six off Allen after Khalil Shakir appeared to slip on a slant. As he reached up to catch it, he tipped the ball. White was right there to grab it and run the other way.
After that, Dane Jackson made a great play to break on a ball intended for Keon Coleman, got his hand on it just as Coleman was bringing it in, and knocked it down to the ground.
At the very end of the session, Hairston took himself out of defensive team drills and was examined by trainers. They were talking about and testing out his lower left leg/knee area. Right after that happened, the horn blew for practice to end. Hairston continued to talk with head athletic trainer Nate Bresky while walking inside with him, along with the rest of the team.
That will be something to monitor on Thursday when the team wraps up their offseason program with an 11 a.m. practice.
Otherwise, all players who missed Tuesday with injuries were out again on Wednesday. That included safeties Cole Bishop and Damar Hamlin, defensive end Joey Bosa, defensive back Cam Lewis, running back Ty Johnson, center Connor McGovern, wide receiver K.J. Hamler, and linebackers Baylon Spector and Shaq Thompson.
Additionally, offensive lineman Alec Anderson and wide receiver/kick returner Laviska Shenault were present but did not participate.
Slot cornerback Taron Johnson, once again, participated while wearing a red non-contact jersey.
