Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - Needing to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win, the Buffalo Bills put up a statement victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
The Bills defense held a dynamic Cowboys offense to just 10 points in the win, while the offense scored at will, racking up 31 points against the tough Dallas defense.
Perhaps the main reason the Buffalo had so much success on Sunday was the performance of running back James Cook, who rushed for 179 yards and added 42 yards in the air to account for 221 of the 351 yards of total offense.
Cook registered a pair of touchdowns - one on the ground and one through the air - to cap off a dominant performance from the Bills.
The hill to climb to make the playoffs this season remains tough, but the Bills have done everything needed to this point to stay in the race: Just keep winning.
With the win, Buffalo now sits at 8-6 on the year, and currently in a four-way tie for the final two Wild Card spots in the AFC. Buffalo is currently tied with the Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals, and Houston Texans.
According to the New York Times Playoff Machine, the Bills currently have a 68% chance at making the playoffs. While the Bills aren't necessarily required to win out anymore, things become very bleak if they don't.
Buffalo still even has a chance to win the AFC East for a fourth-straight season. If they win out and the Miami Dolphins pick up another loss before Week 18, the Bills will claim the division and host a playoff game at Highmark Stadium.
Sunday's win over the Cowboys solidified Howard Simon's confidence for the Bills to finish the season on a hot streak, winning the remaining three games on the schedule.
Howard predicted big wins over both the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots during his Week 16 edition of "Howard Picks the Bills". While he was a bit more reserved about the Dolphins game, he still believes the Bills will pick up the victory, putting Buffalo in a prime spot to make the postseason.
With the Dolphins still to face the Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens and Bills in their final three games, Howard was even so bold to pick the Dolphins to lose, at least, one other game, which would solidify another AFC East title for the Bills.
