Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - After multiple reports on Wednesday indicated a reunion was on the horizon between the Buffalo Bills and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, the team announced his signing to a two-year contract on Thursday.
Tim Graham of The Athletic was first to report talks between both parties, while Mike Garafolo from NFL Network was first to report the signing.
Trubisky spent his 2021 season with the Bills serving as the backup to quarterback Josh Allen. In his limited action under center, Trubisky went 6-of-8 for 43 yards and an interception. He also ran the ball 13 times for 24 yards and a score.
The 29-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Steelers, where he managed to appear in 12 games, starting seven of them but only leading Pittsburgh to a 2-5 record. Trubisky also completed 64.1% of his pass attempts while in Pittsburgh for 1,884 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
After being drafted second overall by the Bears out of the University of North Carolina in 2017, Trubisky went on to play in 51 games with Chicago, putting up a 29-21 record in 50 starts. He also completed 64% of his pass attempts for 10,609 yards, 64 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.
Trubisky's best season in the NFL came in 2018 when he went 11-3 in 14 starts under center for the Bears, and helped Chicago to a playoff berth. He went on to complete 66.2% of his pass attempts for 3,223 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, and earned his first and only Pro Bowl nod of his career.
With the signing of Trubisky, it is likely the Bills will let Kyle Allen hit the free agent market again. The 27-year-old joined the Bills last offseason as a free agent on a one-year deal.
