Cleveland, Ohio (WGR)- The Buffalo Bills will face the Browns in their second preseason game on Saturday afternoon in Cleveland. Here are three things to watch.
Left guard rotation
We don't know yet if the starters will play any snaps at all, but even if they don't, two players who may still be out there who are fighting for a starting job are Alec Anderson and Austin Corbett at left guard.
Anderson seemed to get most of the run at Thursday's joint practice between the two clubs, but it's been a straight up competition since training camp so far. Head coach Joe Brady might want both players to play with different linemen to their left and right to get an even deeper evaluation of them as the team sorts through its ultimate decision.
Punt return
Last week, running back Ray Davis got the first opportunity at punt return. Then it was Mecole Hardman. Brady said on Thursday that Davis really wants to win that job and that he's definitely in the mix.
If starters don't play, and given running back Ty Johnson has been injured and most likely won't suit up, it's possible Davis doesn't play at all just to make sure they don't suffer another injury at the position. If he does play, it will be interesting to see if he gets the first chance to return punts again, or if it's Hardman, or maybe even someone else. The team is definitely looking for someone to win that spot.
Secondary battles
Safety's CJ Gardner-Johnson and Jalon Kilgore have not practiced this week. They're both unlikely to play on Saturday. Cole Bishop returned to action, but is unlikely to play if the starters aren't out there. That would mean Damar Hamlin and Geno Stone could both potentially see quite a bit of time, and they may be battling for one roster spot.
At cornerback, Maxwell Hairston just returned to action and would probably sit if the starters don't play. Christian Benford would also most likely not be out there. That's a great opportunity for Kani Walker to build upon his strong camp and big interception last week against the Panthers, while Davison Igbinosun should see plenty of opportunity to try and solidify his spot as the primary backup outside corner.
