Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato said during his postgame press conference Monday night, as well as on WGR Sports Radio 550 with Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase on Tuesday that goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has earned more playing time. It seems like they’re going to start using Luukkonen like a No. 1 goalie going forward.
With that in mind, rookie goalie Devon Levi needs to get game action and play. That's why the team announced Tuesday he’s been loaned to the Rochester Americans.
In 11 games this season, Luukkonen has been superb, going 6-3-1 with a 2.54 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.
In nine games played, Levi is 3-4-1 with a 3.73 goals-against average and an .876 save percentage.
In his last six games, Luukkonen is 3-1-1 with a 2.04 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage. Only three goalies have a better save percentage during that time.
Eric Comrie has, for the most part, played well this season, and is a perfect complement to Luukkonen for the time being.
