Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) – The Buffalo Sabres have lost goalie James Reimer on waivers to the Anaheim Ducks. That means their starting goaltender in Rochester and No. 3 goalie in the organization is now Felix Sandstrom.
After a tough career in the Philadelphia Flyers organization, Sandstrom didn’t look good at all in training camp or the preseason games.
The Ducks have a hole to fill in net, because veteran John Gibson is out 3-6 weeks after having emergency appendectomy surgery on Sept. 26. Their only other goalie is Lukas Dostal, a 24-year-old who has played 67 NHL games with the Ducks.
Lukas Rousek and Kale Clague cleared waivers to go down to the Rochester Americans, so it appears the Sabres have their 23-man roster for the season.
Rosters are due Monday at 5 p.m. ET, and Nicolas Aube-Kubel has been put on Injured Reserve. He was hurt in Friday's loss to the New Jersey Devils in Prague. Zach Benson was also hurt in Friday’s opener, while JJ Peterka left Saturday’s game with a concussion.
Peyton Krebs went into the lineup for Aube-Kubel, while Kulich played for Benson.
It wasn’t a great game for Kulich, but giving him more of an opportunity would help the 20-year-old, because he’s only played two career NHL games. It’s hard to see what you might have in two games.
With Aube-Kubel going on IR, that makes room for Kulich to remain in Buffalo.
