6 rings: The apparent rift between the Krafts and Bill Belichick goes back nearly a decade
While who has "final say" in the Patriots' front office remains a bit of a mystery since the parting of ways with Bill Belichick and the hiring of Jerod Mayo, we at least know that they're back to work and getting ready for 2024.
According to the Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan on his Pats Interference podcast, the Patriots have been in contact with pending wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on a potential contract extension.
"The team has already been in contact with Kendrick Bourne, I can tell you that," Callahan said when answering a mailbag question about New England's pending free agents. "I don't know the likelihood of him staying."
Bourne has expressed an interest in staying in New England on his social media in recent weeks. He commented on fellow wide receiver DeMario Douglas' Instagram: "...Make the @Patriots bring me back!" and also posted a photo of his own of Gillette Stadium with the caption: "Hopefully see you soon."
The 28-year old was reportedly on the trade block at this past season's trade deadline given New England's all-but-lost season at that point, but told reporters, "I want to be here. I love to be here but if there are other plans, then it is what it is."
Bourne had been putting together one of his best seasons as a pro in 2023, tallying 37 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns through eight games before tearing his ACL against the Dolphins in late October. He enters unrestricted free agency while rehabbing said knee.
